The Duomo, whose construction dates back to 1386, stands in a magnificent piazza in the centre of Milan. Within a short walking distance, it is possible to visit the Palazzo Reale, venue of several temporary exhibitions, the Museo del Novecento (20th Century Museum) and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (shopping arcade).
The Teatro alla Scala, the famous opera house, is also in the city centre. A very characteristic part of the city is Brera where the famous "pinacoteca" (art gallery) is situated. The Castello Sforzesco which dates back to Medieval times is well worth a visit. Inside the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is one of Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpieces: the Last Supper.
